Religions of Etheria

Here is a quick summary of the 6 largest and most influential religions of Etheria in 3022. The first three are by far the most powerful:

  • Conservators of the Quintessential Chalice: Conservators for short. Fanatical dedication to the pursuit of human perfection, and have declared open war on degeneracy in the worlds of Etheria: body hacking and gambling being primary targets. The most powerful religion in the current day is growing.
  • Open Church of the Technocracy: Technocrats for short. Not actually very technocratic, but focused instead on improving and perfecting Automata. Transhumanists in that they actively promote and celebrate ‘Automacation’, a process that turns your brain into a Cyberbrain which is then installed into an Auto. The second-most-powerful religion of Etheria. As you can imagine, the ideals of this organization are at direct odds with the Conservators above.
  • Shrine of the Holy Eye: Seekers for short. Centered on the belief that the being called God is divine, Control and its agents are emissaries of the one true God. Once the most powerful religion, it has experienced a significant decline over the last two hundred years. Likely because the director of Control appointed then has public disdain for the organization he calls ‘sycophants’.

Less powerful but still common religions:

  • Temple of Etheric Resplendence: Lightbearers for short. A now large, very trending movement which began 60 years ago, with the event known as the Etheric Lights. This happened in the stratosphere around Regulus Prime and was a prismatic light show lasting seven days, with no apparent cause. When consulted, God claimed it was an energy interference in the Etheric energy of the space, and that it had little meaning. Centers on the ideas of personal independence and body hacking, framing Etheric energy as divine power. They are in full-on war with the Conservators at this point.
  • Holders of the Peoples Promise: Holders for short. Less a religion but an organized movement against all religions and the current structure of the empire. The held ideal is that the realm of Etheria would be a paradise with the empire restructured to remove all titles and improve efficiency by turning it into an optimized bureaucracy. The only religious ideal they hold is the concept of the Promise, a global state of mass communion with God in which all would be uplifted.
  • Knights of Liberty Corps: Knights for short. Holds a deep belief in personal power and freedom. They directly support the Network Syndicate and have begun spreading the network throughout the empire proper. The most directly militant of the major religions.
