As a player in a game of Regulus, you are expected to do your best to imagine the operative you create. During operative creation, you figure out a lot of stuff about them. As you play, you imagine their daily life and existence in the stratosphere. You are playing a game about these people and their relationships more than the jobs they take on as a criminal crew in the Network. You are also expected to help other players do the same, offering up ideas and thoughts about their operatives as well as your own. In the course of play, wild dramatic events are going to happen, sure, and in those cases, you get to decide how your operative acts. The game focuses mostly on how your operatives and their relationships change in response to these climactic moments in their lives.

You can also immerse yourself in your character if you choose. Role-playing games allow players to immerse themselves and, for a short time, pretend they are their characters. This is no requirement, though, and plenty of people enjoy these games without that element (or much of it).

The next step is to glance over [[Defining Characters|Regulus/Defining Characters]] and [[Operative Handbook|Regulus/Operative Handbook]], which explain the expectations for creating an operative.
